FARMERS MARKET HIGHLIGHTS LOCAL BEST . . .
Connections don't just happen, they have to be made.
As a resident of the Towers our lives are somewhat insular up here in Makaha Valley. So if it's community you're after, there's probably no better place to make those connections than at Makeke Waianae – the Waianae Farmers Market.
Operated by the Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center, the Market is the Waianae Coast's primary gathering place for obtaining local, farm-to-table fresh produce, baked goods, nursery plants, handmade crafts and local services and information.
A little bit like that famous utterance from the movie Forrest Gump: “Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get,” the Market offers at least one, new surprise virtually every week.
Sometimes it's a new food truck, or a different produce vendor, a new crafter, or community-outreach information. But like the Market's primary offerings, the changes keep everything fresh.
The Waianae Farmers Market operates most every Saturday (except for occasions when Saturday falls on a holiday) from 8 a.m. - 12 p.m. on the Nanakuli end of Waianae Mall, behind Pizza Hut and Jamba Juice/Starbucks.
Just like the early bird and the worm, folks who arrive close to opening will have a greater chance of abundant offerings. Later arrivals sometimes have to make do with shopped-out green goods.
