Hiking Kamaile'unu -

A RIDGE TOO FAR? . . .

For many of us, the first morning wake-up sight we see out of our apartment's floor-to-ceiling wall of glass is Kamaile'unu, the ridge and mountain wall directly across Makaha Valley from MVT.

The volcanic flank's coloration changes with the rainfall: umber-brown during dry periods, and brilliant Kelly green given enough precipitation. In the early evening hours, and this time of year particularly, Kamaile'unu often turns practically incandescent, as it reflects the rays of a setting sun. Yes, the volcanic flank is an object of fascination for many of us. Few of us, however, have seen this hill from the hill. Now here's your chance:
